Industrial Environment - CAN HYDROGEN REPLACE HYDROCARBON FUELS?
February 1, 2005 -- The need for "green" power and fuel efficiency is motivating the energy community to investigate hydrogen as a compelling alternative fuel.
Greens call for sustainability criteria to be applied to hydrogen economy
EU Business: As a source of energy from which the only waste emission is water, hydrogen is unquestionably a more environmentally friendly option that, say, diesel or natural gas. The problem, however, is that hydrogen is not a primary energy source, and therefore it must be produced using other forms of energy. If, as is most often the case today, those energy sources are fossil fuel based, then significant amounts of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide will still be released into the atmosphere ...
President George W. Bush Demonstrates Commitment to Development of Clean and Secure Energy Through Hydrogen Fuel
President Refuels GM Vehicle at First Hydrogen Refueling Station in the Country WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 25, 2005) President George W. Bush refueled a General Motors Corp. hydrogen-powered minivan at a Shell station in Washington D.C. today, to demonstrate his commitment toward building a hydrogen economy and reducing our country's dependence on fossil fuels.More...
UK: Renewable Energy world Article : Hydrogen The Last Word
In a recent article in Renewable Energy World, entitled Hydrogen, The Last Word (March-April 2004), Dr Ulf Bossel appears to be precluding any debate, despite the fallacies inherent in his arguments. Dr Bossels illustration of the high efficiency of wind generated electricity obscures the first basic principle that the grid does not store electricity. The big sources of renewable energy, wind, solar, tidal or wave energy are all variable in supply and will be dependent on hydrogen storage to maintain an economic load factor. If supplies of renewable energy are not available, then back up from the national grid, which in the UK is only 35% efficient, will be required.
Alternative Energy Source
As an alternative energy source the hydrogen fuel cell is shaping up to be the power of the future. With many benefits and few drawbacks, fuel cells have become more readily available to consumers and to corporations looking to capitalize on this incredi...
